Did you have a St. Patty's Day party? Got a green stain on your beige carpet now? That's GREAT news for us! If you book a carpet cleaning with us before April 15th, we'll take 10% off our usual pricing! However, if you really would like to try to get the stain out yourself, here's what to consider:
Q1 - What is the green stuff made of?
Q2 - How long has it been there?
Q3 - Do I need my carpets cleaned anyway?
A1 - If it's food coloring, it's edible and organic and you'll need a little acid to clean this stain up. Use straight white vinegar. Pour a little on and agitate it LIGHTLY so you don't rub the stain through to the back of the carpet. Use white paper towels or a white cotton towel to blot up as much color as possible. Then put about 1 DROP of dish soap in a small coffee cup of hot water (don't nuke it, just use hot tap water). Drizzle this over the stained area until it's all DAMP (not wet). Agitate this LIGHTLY. If you don't have a Bissel Little Green Machine or similar, use a wet/dry shop vac to remove the water and the rest of the stain. If that doesn't work, call us!
A2 - The longer it's been there, the more other stuff it's attracted and you might have a stain that consists of a lot of small, non-voting constituents. That's a joke. However, the vinegar cleaning described above is still your best bet unless the stain is non-organic (paint, etc). If you're basic vinegar clean, doesn't work, and you didn't get an A in chemistry, it's best to call us.
A3 - If it's been more than 6 months, then yes, you do! Carpet manufacturers recommend a minimum of every 6 months. Really, however, the goal is clean carpets. Remember that your carpet is the BIGGEST air filter in your home. Especially in the winter, it's been busy filtering every cubic inch of air in your home over and over again. Regular vacuuming helps extend the life of your carpet by removing those dust particles that can abrade and wear out your carpet, but regular steam cleaning gets them OUT before they go all the way down to the backing where they cannot typically be removed.
Don't hesitate to call us also about any stain you may have. We are happy to point you in the right direction!
