Depending on what kind of stain protection it is, it might.  There are two types of stain protection for soft goods:  1) the kind that is "made in" when the fabric fibers are milled, and 2) the kind that is applied after the good has been produced.  For example, Stainmaster is a brand name process that is integrated into the carpet fiber manufacture.  Carpets that carry this designation, have been manufactured such that the stain resistency is a part of the fiber through and through.  In these carpets, the protection is inherent and cannot be cleaned away. 

Other types of stain protection such as Scothguard are added to a fiber's surface after manufacture.  All of these types of protectant will be washed off during the carpet cleaning process.  For folks with this type of protectant, it's important for them to consider having protectant added after each carpet cleaning or having their carpets cleaned more frequently.  Most carpet manufacturers recommend you have your home's carpets cleaned at least twice a year.  We have found that for most of our clients, this is a frequency that keeps staining under control without adding protectant.
